been very interesting, this exchange. Not just the experiences of an overseas education and all the travelling n stuff, but also how i have time to tink abt myself, away frm all the influence and distractions. Then, i realise i dunno wat to tink abt myself. damm........
Reflecting on my past, i realise it wasnt a very nice path.

It doesnt matter if u add the 'lah's or 'loh's, the distinct singaporean slang when they speak is enuff. Enuff for wat? enuff for other singaporeans to identify u as their counterpart. For example, we were happily skiing at Chicopee ski slope. While queuing up at the ski lift, we were chatting, n out of nowhere, a couple just asked if we were Singaporeans. Whoot! This happened not just once. A NUS student also identified us in a similar manner in skool. It happened to other pple studying here wif us. Cant help but feel a swelling of pride in our distinct slang, our special code, someting truely uniquely singapore.

Wat a bloody painful flight here frm sg. Butt pain, jet lagged, food sux. (ohhh, they had this rice dessert. 1st time i had rice for dessert.....so weird).
Ohh, the view frm the plane was super nice. From fire works in India, bleak skies in London to snow plains in Canada, they were all truely unique. Too bad my camera is wif my checked-in luaggage.

I admit it is partly cos i'm lazy. But there is another reason.
Everytime I sort out the room, I'll have to clear out some old stuff. Tt means having to decide whether to throw away or keep the old stuff. As I age, priorities change, but there r so many tings i still wan to keep, like the stupid, n idiotic comments left on old lecture notes by JC frens, the old claz attendance sheet, the random memorabilia frm each events or trip tt i attended or went. How i wish i cld keep all these. But tts quite impossible...... How to better sort out my stuff without the heavy heart? Cld anyone tell me?

Havent updated here since 1 sem ago? hahraz. means i've been VERI busy. this sem has been rewardin yet irritating. Certainly learned alot and experienced alot - like not to overload too many modules ever again. Some stuff i've did since last post.

- Diving lessons.....i am an advance diver now! It was the most amazing experience. Totally cant describe in words how it feels like to be down in the water, surrounded by fishes and corals n all the weird tingys. Had a veri gd diving buddy Lip En to look after me so it was totally enjoyable n stress-free.

-Scholar's nite. Nice to c u all ard.

-Freshmen Orientation Camp. Super fun trying to be a ghost. Thnx Cherryn n Wee Boon for leadin the pack.

-Prometheus. My hall production . It was freakin fun and made alot of frens. Some more special than others, but all great to have.

-Trip to Udon Thani, Thailand and Vientiane, Laos wif Edwin, my army good fren.

The tutor is Mr Wayne Umehara, a very interesting and lively person.
The lesson was certainly different frm wat i expected, for Mr Wayne spent the better part of it talkin about humans, compassion, courtesy, and the heart.
yesh, maybi this is jus wat photos need to express, the heart. hope my pics start developin its own heart soon.

Whenever I ask someone out, the replies normally go like this: "where, wat time, who is goin, wat r we doing?"

Its veri weird (at least to me) tt the mention of a place will somehow set the theme of wat we gonna do. For eg, orchard road - shoppin, eat, movies (cant we jus go there to observe human behaviour?). Siloso beach - "wheres the volleyball/frisbee?" (how come no one tot of bringin the volleyball when we go east coast? east coast cost 3 bucks less n has cleaner water, but pple still go sentosa to pay 3 bucks to play volleyball. Y die die mus play volleyball? i dun understand).

ever tot of the possibility tt we can simply do nuting? Have u ever done a "do nuting"? Prob not. Y mus there be a theme when i ask u out? Must there be an agenda clearly laid out? Y cant we jus go wif the flow n c where it leads us to?

If u find the above veri familiar, i dun blame u, for u have been the obedient creature well trained by other well-trained obedient creatures. Society mus be the greatest trainer of all, for it not onli trains pple to act in a certain manner, it also ensure tt those it trained will carry on training others. Confused? Me too.
Interview a normal teenager abt wat it wans the gov to improve on n he or she will invariantly want more freedom of speech. Do they noe wat it means? Has the alleged lack of freedom of speech actualli hindered their progress so much tt they wan it loosened? Do they even noe wat they r tokkin abt? I believe most r rather clueless n simply sae they wan more freedom of speech cos tt is wat most teenagers wan rite? So y does most other teenagers wan more freedom of speech? well prob cos it seemed to be a rather mature ting to sae. Kudos to the 1st enlightened teenage who mentioned this freedom of speech ting n made it seem cool to sae so at the same time, which pretty much ensured the rest wld follow.

I find it real strange y pple can go so blissfully doin predefined tasks n not find it a chore.(predefined task as in meet at 12, eat lunch, go siloso beach, play volleyball, wash up, eat dinner, go home, yay, so happy........) The society certainly didnt take this strangness i felt lightly n made me feel bad at the same time.

Come to tink if it, i wldnt be so surprised if this 'society' is realli like the one in The Matrix. (If u r still wonderin, i do have sumting against playin volleyball at sentosa, i tink it is freakin lame, but tts jus me)

Basically it is abt how being lucky stems frm hardwork and preparation.
how to get lucky? some tots tt resonates wif me.
-Be perpetually inquisitive. Search for truth, for answers to questions that are important to you. Listen while others talk.
-Network. Get out of your rut and meet new people doing new things and thinking new tots.
-Be positive. Cheer for those who try.
-Diversify your interests. Join Rotary, or another service club to meet new and interesting people.
-Do not blame others..... the blame game is for losers.
-Look for the edge. Do not fall off, but try to find where it is and practise risk-taking in non-threatening ways.

Finally, some pics on windsurfing. Taken at inter-tertiary windsurfing competition. 1st dae was hell, waves were huge, course was extremely long n wind was powerful. It was like playin tug-of-war wif a mad bull on a mad bull. Feel bashed up by the end of the dae. 2nd dae when these pics were taken were much much much betta. Competed in the novice category. Was among the last few, so tt made me the noob of the noobs, lolx.

Inspiring pple ard

I'm inspired by some pple again. Basically, they r the pple in the road relay team, running for the desire to win for the hall. Enduring injured knees, back problems, sickness, strained muscles, they have pushed hard during training. Even pple who r not in the team, they willingly helped in draggin potentials down for training, helpin wif attendance list n every other ting, big or small. Sacrificing almost every night, one coached all of us, forgoing many wks of social life.

When we had time trial, one fell halfway thru the route, twisting her ankle along they way. We trudged back to the start point. She taped up her ankle, stretched a little, and went for another run of the route, ignoring the pain in her ankle and the tiredness of her body. How could i not be inspired by the dedication n determination of completing a goal.

Had a cosy little gatherin last sat wif xy, zw, joyce, xuan, yiyu n weisheng. So we had dinner at white dog cafe which had ok ambience, not tt nice price and kinda lousy food. Only weisheng tot tt it was nice.
Super unsatisfied, we headed for canele for desserts. The ambience was gd, price acceptable and quite gd cakes. We differ in preferences over which cake was the best, but i realli tot tt the cheesecake is realli one of the betta ones ard sg.

This is someting i found out exist during a lect todae (wow, someting tt is actualli interesting in lectures).
This also happen to be someting so trivial n yet taken so seriously.
So cartoon physics according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_physics frm wikipedia is a joking reference to the fact that animation allows regular laws of physics to be ignored in humorous ways for dramatic effects. For example, when a cartoon character runs off a cliff, gravity has no effect until the character notices and reacts.

n then theres Anvilology which is the study of (cartoon) physical principles of anvils, as studied at "Acme Looniversity" in the animated series, Tiny Toons.

* Everything falls faster than an anvil (so that the evil character can hit the ground first and then be crushed, but not killed, by the anvil).
* Anvils are readily available.
* Anvils can stay in the air until noticed by a character, at which point they fall on the character.

Imagine a person who wld wake up earlier than 6 almost everydae jus to send his children to sch..........all the way frm nursery to pri sch to sec sch to jc to army n even uni. Imagine this person who prefer the stomach portion of a fish, so tt others can have other regions of the fish tt has less bones.
Now imagine no more cos such a person exists, he is my dad. Thank you for everyting tt u gave me in my relatively short 21 yrs on earth. N so, i suddenly discovered i had a sat nite free. Frantically called ard and managed to get Frank and Wei Hao to go out for dinner. Since Frank was seriously deprived of sg food, it was a no-brainer to head to the temporary chinatown hawker centre found at outram park mrt.
As usual, Frank lived up to his targetboard status and give us plenty of fodder to arrow him....... lolx, lots of goodies to blackmail him again. As usual, Wei Hao totally made the surrounding freezing wif his veri the cold jokes.
Wif these 2 ard........the topics periodically revolved ard "I luv maths", "no is math", "maths!", "math"........oh well............it was realli a nice dinner and walk ard vivocity. Hope to c more of u all dsta pple on 28th!

And so, this is one of another frequent trip up to Malaysia's Genting highlands and Frasers hill, budden every trip brings sumting new.
The first day was spent mostly on the road to Genting highlands. The snaking road up genting was realli exhilarating. The slope is steep. Even though the road was 3 lanes wide, havin to constantly dodge smoke spewing lorries n buses as well as Initial-D inspired taxi drivers ensured that i was perspiring like mad when we finally reached the top.

We stayed in Hotel First World, which shd realli be called Hotel 3rd world. It had a 3rd world carpark(freakin freakin lousily designed), 3rd world rooms (whose sole purpose is to force u to spend as little time in it as possible) n 3rd world buffet breakfast.

For the 1st time, I entered the casino. Havin visited it, I still dun understand y people wld so gladly donate money to the casino and having to endure the irritating smoke at the same time. I mus sae i looked realli young cos i had to produce passport everytime i enter the casino, unlike my fren who 1st entered without being checked at age 15...................dammit.
On the 3rd dae, we made our way to Frasers hill.

Met wif super nice weather to take pics of flora and fauna. N the flowers r realli everywhere, wif colours so rich n saturated, few can resist the urge to pluck them.

On the 6th and last dae, I broke my own drivin speed record! Reached 160km/h. Oh well, gotta experience it to feel my excitment. Now back to hall for all the trainings!

Went windsurfing finally, after such a long time. Realli i nice feelin to return back to the sun, the sand, the sea, n most importantly the wind! Veri nice n strong wind. Hmm.........i'm realli starting to believe tt humans belong to the sea. It is such a liberating feelin to cut thru the water, struggling against the wind.

So can Lawrence n Frank quickly come back, the wind is ready, me n Hao Xiang is waiting, our hands itching to control the tiller and main sail again.

Since young, you have been doin well in sch. In terms of academic results, you sail through every exam while ur peers struggled. You never had much problems with homework while your clazmates simply do not understand. Concepts seems perfectly logical and you do not c wat there is to understand in them when your friends find them obscure.

veri nice condition for noob boardsailers like me, ignoring the irritating haze, there is not too strong not too light wind, n most importantly, relatively calm waves, So managed less intake of NaCl and less embarassing falls into the water this time. Budden again, there is so much more to learn, basics like tacking n gybing seems or even turnin properly seems like high level manoeuvres now. Which is kind of a blessing in disguise for someting tt happened todae.
While sailing outwards, i lost balance n fell into the sea. When i recovered, the sail had came off. Lucky i not so pro, so didnt travel veri far off-shore. Had to swim back all the way wif the board n sail. Then i kenna my 1st ever jellyfish sting. It feels like some plastic bag touch my hand n b4 i knew wat happened, tt "plastic bag" gave me this freakin painful tingling sensation.
Anyway, ate the famous wet char kway teow at the hawker centre near parkway. So satisfying. hhaahhahrz.

Windsurfing

Sheesh, windsurfing is tougher than i tot. It is so unlike laser sailing, where u cld simply catch wind n jus go. I spent half the time in the water, the rest of the time tryin to get onto the board and pullin up the sail. Got to sail for onli a veri short period of time. And the risk of tacking for windsurfing issnt the boom, but more of losing balance n falling into the sea, which is so common, it doesnt matter much.
I got so much more bruises and cuts for windsurfing than sailing man.
Hmmm.........but seeing the lao jiaos skimming over the water at insane speed, i m rather determined to master this sport. Hopefully can provide some pics nxt time.

Battling the sea.

This sailing trip last sat can be best described as a battle with the sea and weather.
The conditions r quite rough tt dae, like veri gusty but inconsistent winds, choppy waves and dark ominous skies. Guess this is the worst i've ever seen, but i guess even more demanding conditions will arrive wif the oncoming monsoon season.
Anyway, the veri strong winds was so freakin powerful tt i cld almost feel my laser flying.
We took slightly less than 1 hr to reach the halfway point of Pulau Punggol in run conditions.
The return trip also took 1 hr onli, in close conditions, in spite of the choppy waves formed by the impending storm.

Fighting the strong winds n waves were not easy. We were quite shagged after the 2 hr trip already. Having to keep adjusting our position ensured tt I got sore bottoms and serious muscle aches everywhere. But it was realli worth the effort, experiencing the exhilarating speed as the laser cuts thru the waves. So when is the next sailing trip?

The weather conditions todae was veri veri gd. Not much sun(cloudy), strong winds, no rain(till when we packed up), what more can i ask for, maybi cept for the wind to be more consistent.
Well, the shifty wind certainly kept me on my toes.....and butt (pple who sail will noe wat i mean), in fact, so shifty tt i have butt abrasion now. Certainly no chance to doze off at all. One moment of distraction and u'll prob cap, which i did once.....or rather twice, thnx to Ziyang *ahem*. Proud to sae tt we cap quite often todae(n most of it r dry caps)
Realli realli amazing how fast lasers can go......witnessed it todae, wif body (any parts above the butt) jus inches away frm the water surface. Realli gd workout for the whole body. haharz......sailing is realli addictive.

This wk is cool, and freakin tiring.
Drinkin session wif OG on tues nite, lasted so late tt by the time i went for lessons the nxt dae, i still reek of alcohol and feel like puking.
Ran ard the sch again, faster this time. Meet Fiona, Ying Ying and Jocelyn downstairs, chat till late again.
Thurs- Hall supper, came back at 2 am plus, jus when i was abt to slp at 3, was "forced" to go play mahjong, ended up playin till 6 and owning pple yet another meal. Tot i cld go back n slp liao, met Kenny and tot tt his idea of goin out for breakfast more realistic. So macs breakfast it was and back for lecture straight. Ended up slping through the lecture. Might as well jus skip the lect rite?
So if i were to catch up on my slp deficit this wk-end, i'll prob have to slp through both sat and sun, which is not possible since there is sailing tmr!!!!

Whoot, had this annual hall supper tingy on thurs. it was quite fun, following 2 busloads of people to Bedok Simpang for prata and then Geylang for all the sinful stuff (the edible kind). Was a little, little disappointed cos i tot we wld be realli food hopping all over sg, turned out tt we are going only these 2 places, and most of my frens were already full after the 1st stop.(if onli Yi Liang was there)
But still, managed to eat all the gd stuff in sg which pple overseas now cld only dream about.

hmmm......finished the 2nd wk of sch already.....like realli realli so the fast. University seemed such a distant topic in the past, so unreachable.......n i'm already into the 2nd wk b4 i noe it.
Well, the 2nd wk seems better than the 1st wk, as seconded by ZZ. Navigatin the place seems 2nd nature already. Tings r fallin in place, even tutorials seem slightly (as in veri slightly) easier to do. But i'm still gettin quite little sleep over here. sleepin at 1 plus 2 on average is not veri healthy ar..... n i m startin to exercise more! yeah! healthy living...... joined floorball, which is veri the fun n tiring. Went to c the fireworks put up by the French team yest. Even though tt was supposed to be the highlight, I tink the places we ate at (asian kitchen, the loof and menotti) as well as the pple tt came (ZZ, Teresa, Selene, Yiyu and Xuan) was the most memorable of the dae. yeah!! my 1st 2 daes of uni schling!!!! suffering frm sore throat, lack of slp, lack of preparation, lack of computer(this cold turkey is esp bad), lack of info abt basically everyting(dunno where is where, who is who, what is what, i dun even noe wat i m supposed to study). So sch on the 1st dae was quite a clueless affair where i wonder ard together wif other clueless freshies.
1st dae was quite slack actually wif only 1 lecture in a freakin hugh lecture hall. Then spent the rest of my time strollin ard the cca fair or sumting. Had this freshie bash at nite. Was like "wahh....cool, chiong in sch!" I mean, this is sg??? ntu?? realli a paradigm shift for me. But was actually quite fun wif the OG pple, despite the so so music, lighting n sound system. hmm.....well, it is always abt the company.
Todae was quite fun also, spent the dae walkin ard the north n south spine again, signing up for boardsailing n ordering my laptop. n I figured out y everyone sae the computing module is so tough liao. I sat down for the computing lecture n within 5 mins, I'm already in dreamland. No joke. N I ponned like half the econs lecture which came after tt liao........shit man.......jus dae 2 n i'm back to my old habit. sux totally.

Night cyclin

this nite cyclin trip was certainly eventfully man. 1st was the punctured tire of my bike, which interestingly allowed me to understand how a tired is structured. Mani mani thnx to Hao Xiang, who brought the spoilt bike back and used his own bike, allowing us to continue the trip. N then Daniel sprained his ankle. Lucky he could continue in great spirit, blastin his music all the way. The 3rd incident involves a chain of pple doin emergency braking which finally ended wif Ziyang flippin over when he braked. Lucky the injuries was not serious according to him.
Overall, the nite cycling was veri the fun thnx to pple like the responsible last man, Wee Hong, the topo pple like Lawrence n Haoxiang, Wei Hao who made the whole nite cooling, Xiufang, who taught me wat it is like to be reckless(cycling on the 2nd lane of the road wif earphones in ears while using hp) and all others who showed great enthusiasm.

Yay, completed the course successfully. Everyone became quite pro todae. We didnt capsize as often as yest even though the wind was veri shifty. Didnt hear much stories of pple being knocked by the boom either since we were better prepared for it. The test was basically quite easy n i tink we were more concerned wif competing against one another, kind of forgotten there was a test. It was certainly fun to sail across the whole stretch of the pasir ris park area to loyang and then towards coney island before heading back. The strong consistent wind gives us confidence to hike alot wif the laser happily humming along. Mus sae the activity was realli fun n we had alot of experiences to share wif one another(like who bang who, who almost killed who). Heh, n does Frank look like Ziyang? hmmmm........hahahhrz

2nd dae of sailing course!

Sailing a laser is realli realli fun, not like the leisurely and relaxed activity i used to associate it wif.
How painful - Imagine one solid piece of metal boom swinging right towards ur face, u duck, gleeful of ur fast reaction time to escape the metal boom, u bend back up, onli to feel a sharp pain at the back of ur head as the metal boom swings right back, tts wat sailin is abt.
How humbling - u tink u have trimmed the sail jus right, set the rudder in the correct direction, balanced the boat perfectly, n then a strong gust of wind blows over, u suddenly realised u r flyin thru the air into the sea as ur boat capsizes, tts sailing for u.
How exhilarating - u decide to do a gybe, swingin the boat about, u feel the boat keeling to one side, water goin into the cockpit, boom touchin the water, u r convinced u r goin to capsize again as u lean hard on the other side, then somehow the boat mercifully rights itself n u start speedin off. Tts wat gonna happen when u sail.
How confident u become - u feel overpowered by the wind as the laser keel badly, u notice for a split second the sea moving up the horizon, then right in front of u, instinctively u lean back all the way as the laser capsizes, too late, but u agilely climb over the side of the boat and stand on the centerboard, u stand upright n manages a victory sign wif both hands to ur frens before righting the laser without touchin the water at any time. Tts wat sailin will instil in u.
How cool - wif the boat keelin to one side, u push butt out to the edge of the boat, lean back right above the choppy waters, adoptin a veri cool lookin pose called hiking, u feel in total control of everyting, u feel the speed, u feel the spray of the boat, u feel the hum of the laser as though it is also enjoyin itself (found out later it is called planing where air is goin below the hull? flyin laser?) tts how fun sailing is!

My stomach feels like bursting now.... had Kenny Rogers wif 3 side dishes(the veri famous corn muffin is out of stock) and bitter choc fudge cake frm cafe cartel. Had a balllll of a time yest at the Barker Outing @ Marina South. Chat alot while having steamboat, basically joking at the cookin skills of one another, joking abt anyting else in the world. Then some pple were laughin the whole nite, wanting to c live prawns die in the most sick manner (tell u ar, u can neber tell how evil a person is, until u give him/her a steamboat n live prawns). But realli had alot of fun lah.
